Suicide Prevention Month

Prevent Suicide Greater Milwaukee was holding a contest for their 2019 Suicide Prevention Month poster design. I entered and won with my negative space design. I was also invited to their board meeting to speak on the concept and on my personal relationship with suicide. The project led to me being a guest on the Giving Voice to Depression Podcast in which I dove into my personal battle with depression and suicidal thoughts. This wasn’t just a contest for me. This project propelled me into a whole new network of strong, passionate and insightful people.

THE POSTER

Here are the rules: 1) Create an original design that visualizes one of four PSGM slogans; I chose “End the Silence”  2) Show the PSGM logo  3) Show the Suicide Prevention Hotline Phone Number. Not only did I win the contest, I was able to consult with the organization regarding print size, paper stock and print shops.

SOCIAL MEDIA IMAGE

The PSGM social media sites were pretty sparse. I decided, on my own time and with no expectation of compensation, that I would offer the organization an Insta-ready image for their sharing pleasure.

END THE SILENCE WITH PROMO APPAREL

End the stigma of talking about mental health issues by showing your support with this fashionable hoodie.

END THE SILENCE AT THE BAR

As a bartender, I’m all-too-familiar with how depression and alcohol feed off of each other. These bright coasters might just be the push to help some lost soul end their silence about depression and suicide. The hotline phone number is prominent for this reason.
